Since making a promise in 1920 to "get Missouri out of the mud" by building modern roads and bridges, MoDOT has taken an ever-expanding role in improving transportation. In addition to designing, building and maintaining roads and bridges, MoDOT works to improve airports, river ports, railroads, public transit systems, and pedestrian and bicycle travel. The department also administers motor-carrier and highway-safety programs.

More than 6,200 employees work in 10 districts statewide and at MoDOT's Central Office in Jefferson City. They use the latest technology and innovations to serve the traveling public.
