BNSF Names Developer of Intermodal Park
BNSF will partner with The Allen Group to develop a 1,000-acre intermodal logistics park near Gardner, Kan. The Allen Group is a San Diego-based industrial development firm specializing in rail-served industrial parks and office properties. BNSF's rail-truck intermodal hub will occupy 350 acres with the remaining acres being developed for warehouses and distribution facilities. Learn more about the partnership and development.
Building North American Competitiveness
The Council of the Americas has joined the City of Kansas City, Mo., this year in hosting the North America Works II Conference Nov. 30 through Dec. 2. The conference will focus on key issues that affect North American competitiveness and entrepreneurial development. It will involve more than 150 transportation, logistics and economic development specialists from across Mexico, the Unites States and Canada. Learn more about North America Works II.
KC SmartPort Selects New Chairman
KC SmartPort has selected John E. Wagner, Jr., president of Wagner Industries Inc., as its new chairman. Wagner succeeds Ken Hoffman, lead attorney for the transportation practice at the law firm of Blackwell Sanders Peper Martin LLP, who is stepping down after a two-year term. Read the news release.
Port Security Bill Becomes Law
President George W. Bush signed the Security and Accountability for Every Port Act (SAFE Port) into law last week. The bill passed the House of Representatives on a 409 to 2 vote and by unanimous consent of the Senate.
